Keyword clusters: how to plan content around topics, not single keywords

Writing one page per keyword leads to thin, overlapping content. Grouping keywords by intent gives you fewer, stronger pages and a clear plan.

In this article

A keyword cluster is a group of searches that share the same intent, so one good page can answer all of them.

Why single-keyword pages fall short

Searches like “local SEO service” and “local SEO services near me” want the same thing. Separate pages for each compete with one another and split your links between them.

How to build a cluster

  1. Collect keywords from Search Console, your keyword tool and your customers’ own questions.
  2. Group by intent. Ask whether one page could satisfy both searches. A quick check is whether Google shows similar results for each.
  3. Choose a main page for each group, targeting its most useful phrase.
  4. Add supporting articles for related questions, and link them to the main page.

Keep it practical

Start with the topics closest to what you sell. A small set of complete clusters will do more for you than a long list of half-finished ones.
